  8. Minutes of A New Internet Protocol (PIP) BOF
  9.  
  10. The PIP BOF was held on Wednesday night, July 15, 1992.  The purpose of
  11. the BOF was to educate people about PIP. PIP (for ``P'' Internet
  12. Protocol) is a new internet protocol designed for advanced internet
  13. applications, such as policy routing and flow, but is still able to
  14. accommodate existing internetworking techniques (that is, hop-by-hop
  15. routing with simple hierarchical addresses).

  17. No real action items or decisions came out of the meeting.  Mr.
  18. Tsuchiya indicated his intent to start a PIP mailing list
  19. (pip@thumper.bellcore.com), and to proceed as quickly as possible on a
  20. PIP specification and prototype implementation.
  21.  
  22. Otherwise, the BOF consisted of a presentation of examples of PIP
  23. operation under various circumstances including plain old hierarchical
  24. addresses, policy routing, separation of external addressing conventions
  25. from internal addressing, and mobile systems.  Many lively discussions
  26. ensued, and a good time was had by all.
